Abstract:
Peer teaching has become one of the effective pedagogical approaches that improve the cognitive skills of students by learning together. The current paper examines the effect of peer teaching on cognitive development of students at the secondary and tertiary education levels. The study will be experimental whereby there will be control and experimental groups to gauge cognitive gains in relation to understanding, application, and higher-order thinking skills. The results indicate that students who received peer instruction show much better academic performance, understanding of the concepts, as well as metacognitive awareness. The research concludes that peer teaching is an effective learning approach that promotes active learning, critical thinking and knowledge building, which is why it is an effective tool in contemporary educational systems.
